“How to kill a town”: Conwy Council extends Llandudno parking charge zone

Conwy County Borough Council has come under fire once again for extending the Controlled Parking Zone in Llandudno, with residents warning that new charges on The Parade and the North Shore will harm local tourism.

The proposals were met with significant opposition when they were announced in Spring, however the recent installation of pay and display machines between Ty’n y Ffirth Road and Nant-y-Gamar Road has prompted a fresh wave of criticism.

“Well there’s another nail in the coffin,” wrote Ian Thomas in response to the North Wales Live article, alongside more than 440 other commenters. “Llandudno will be just like Rhyl in a couple of years.”

“The tax on the motorist keeps on piling up,” said Robert Rhys Jones. “Another reason not to visit Llandudno.” Mel Lewis described the charges as “how to kill a town.”

When fully installed, the meters will charge motorists £5.50 up to four hours and £7.50 for more than four hours, between 1 May and 30 September. From 1 October to 30 April, the charge will be £3.80 and £5.40, respectively.

“Pay and Display machines have been installed on the Parade in Llandudno,” said a spokesperson for the council. “We are in the process of installing signage and road markings. We will only enforce the parking restrictions once all work has been completed.”
