Barry and District News has hailed the town’s numerous arcades as “crucial” to the area’s appeal, noting that both local residents and tourists are drawn to the seafront attractions.
Speaking to operators from venues such as Nessa’s and Carousel, the paper championed the town’s seafront amusements for providing “the most affordable family day out in the UK.”
“Arcades play a crucial role in the regeneration of seaside towns, acting as draws to the area during the summer months and a sanctuary away from the wind and cold during the off season,” reported Barry and District News.
“The care and attention that the staff pay to their businesses and customers shines through, making it a truly unique place to spend time in Barry.”
Speaking to the paper, Nessa’s manager Cameron Morgan said: “I think that Barry Island is not just big for tourists. The people who live and work here love it and I think that wears off on visitors. It’s not like other places.”
Dawn Clement, manager at Carousel, added: “A lot of our staff have their own families and children, so we know how expensive a day out can get.”
“If a family has multiple children, we will always make sure that they each walk out with something. Even if it’s just something small, we’ve been able to treat them to something that they might not have been able to afford.”
