J Holland and Sons submits plans for £600,000 Weymouth arcade

J Holland and Sons has submitted plans to Dorset Council to convert a former Boots unit on Weymouth high street into a £600,000 AGC, after winning support from Weymouth Town Council and the local Chamber of Commerce.

The family-run company, which operates the nearby Alexandra Gardens fairground and Trident Casino Slots in Poole, stated the venue will have a beneficial impact on the town centre while creating five full-time and three part-time jobs.

“This proposal will enhance the vitality, viability and character of this part of the area,” said the change of use statement.

“The proposed development will have no unacceptable impact on nearby residential or commercial amenity and will not cause any disturbance to the local community by way of unacceptable noise, litter, crime or anti-social behaviour.”

Dorset Police have submitted no objection to the proposals, and Weymouth Chamber of Commerce president Dominique Manasseri welcomed the Hollands’ “meaningful” plans for development.

“The proposed £600,000 investment, along with the creation of new full-time and part-time positions, could bring positive economic benefits to our local community.”

“By working collaboratively, we believe projects like this can help enhance the vitality of our town centre while ensuring community interests are respected.”
