More than 25 representatives from The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain joined the Cenotaph Remembrance Service and March Past in London on 10 November, one of the largest groups of delegates the Guild has fielded.
Showmen from among the ten sections of the SGGB assembled at Horse Guards’ Parade on the morning of the service, before marching down Whitehall to lay the Guild’s wreath at the Cenotaph.
“President John Thurston, in his final year, presented the Showmen’s Guild official wreath – that now sits alongside the hundreds of others similarly laid there on Remembrance Sunday and with further wreaths and tributes on Armistice Day on Monday 11 November,” said Des Fitzgerald.
“The marchers continued into Great George Street and then Birdcage Walk, where they took the salute from the Prince of Wales, before the official Dispersal of all 10,500 participants. Congratulations to everyone who took part and those who supported them and those who cheered them on.”
After the march, attendees assembled at the Salisbury on St Martin’s Lane, which has become a tradition among members of the Guild after paying their respects.
“Our thanks are due to the Royal British Legion for their continued support and encouragement of our participation in this important and inclusive national commemorative event.”
