The MP for Lowestoft has written to the owners of Claremont Pier to honour the “remarkable achievement” of redecking 60 metres of the attraction, which was completed this month at the cost of more than £100,000.
Jess Asato praised director Ben Llewellyn’s “tireless push” to complete the project, as well as the dedication the ownership team has demonstrated in breathing new life into the heritage asset.
“I am writing to extend my warmest congratulations on the successful restoration of the 60-metre stretch of The Claremont Pier,” wrote Asato. “This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to your vision, commitment and hard work.”
“The Claremont Pier is more than just a landmark on our seafront – it is a treasured part of Lowestoft’s heritage. For over 120 years it has stood proudly on South Beach, offering generations of families a place to gather, relax and enjoy our coastline. Its restoration is not only a celebration of our past but a hopeful step into the future of our town.”
Acknowledging the impact of the Sponsor a Board initiative and “spectacular” fireworks displays, Asato praised the pier’s “tireless push” to complete the redecking in time for Easter, adding “the effort has been nothing short of outstanding.”
