Mecca Bingo Luton took centre stage last week as it featured on BBC Breakfast in celebration of National Bingo Week, organised by The Bingo Association. The special segment highlighted the game’s growing popularity, particularly among younger generations seeking fun, affordable social activities.
BBC presenter Graham Satchell visited the Luton venue to explore what he described as a “renaissance” in bingo, noting that it is increasingly appealing to younger audiences in search of “simple fun.” The 8.5-minute piece captured the vibrant atmosphere of the club and the enthusiasm of its regulars.
Viewers heard from Mel Young, assistant manager at Mecca Luton, alongside her mother Ann, a long-time bingo fan. Local players Sophia and Charlie also shared why the game continues to bring people together across generations. The feature also included a live studio appearance by Benjamin Maycock, also known as “Bingo Benj”, from Mecca’s Wednesbury club.
“National Bingo Week brings the industry together,” commented Mark Jervis, general manager at Mecca Bingo Luton. “We were honoured that the BBC chose our club for their feature.”
