National Fairground Museum celebrates its first year at new Statfold Country Park home

The National Fairground Museum is celebrating its first anniversary this weekend, having opened at Statfold Country Park on 24 May 2025 after relocating much of the vintage ride collection formerly operated by Dingles Fairground Museum in Milford Lifton.

The National Fairground Museum is celebrating its first anniversary at Statfold Country Park in Tamworth next week by highlighting several of the jewels in its collection, such as the “breathtaking” Edwards’ Chariot Racer.

The museum officially opened on 24 May 2025 after relocating many of the rides from Dingles Fairground Museum in Milford Lifton, which closed the previous November, and will host a special event to mark its birthday on 25 May.

“As we prepare to celebrate the first anniversary of The National Fairground Museum, we’re looking back at some of the incredible stories behind the rides that make our collection so special,” said a spokesperson. “This includes the breathtaking Edwards’ Chariot Racer.”

“Built in 1934 by Orton, Sons and Spooner, this beautifully restored ride has thrilled generations for over 90 years. From its striking Art Deco styling to the dramatic Roman chariot racing scene painted by renowned fairground artists Sid and Albert Howell, the Chariot Racer remains one of the finest surviving rides of its kind still operating today.”

The Chariot Racer spent decades travelling with the Edwards family, and was a star exhibit at Dingles Fairground Museum, beside Shaw’s Moonrocket.

“Join us on the 25 May as we celebrate our first amazing year preserving fairground history, sharing unforgettable memories, and keeping these spectacular rides alive for future generations.”
