Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool has announced its Grade II-listed Grand National ride will reopen next month, following an extensive renovation which included replacing sections of the track and fitting a new drive sprocket.
Rumours had circulated online that the 1935 twin-track racing coaster had been removed from the site as part of a wider modernisation programme, however the attraction confirmed it will once again welcome riders towards the end of June.
“The wonderful thing about Pleasure Beach is that we have a unique blend of old and new,” said CEO Amanda Thompson. “We’re home to some industry-leading, modern coasters like Icon, as well as nostalgic fan favourites such as Grand National.”
“We know Grand National has created wonderful memories over the years, and we’re thrilled to be able to announce that she will reopen June.”
The park added that due to the ride’s age, renovation must be undertaken by a specialist maintenance team, meaning work to repaint and replace elements such as the pull-up chain took longer than it would on other rides.
“The work has been delivered by Pleasure Beach’s own engineers, who have been simultaneously working on the re-imagining of Launch Pad,” reported the Blackpool Gazette.
