Police treating second Oasis Arcade attack as hate crime

A second incident of vandalism at Oasis amusement arcade in Londonderry is being treated as a hate crime, according to the Police Service Northern Ireland.

The Shipquay Street venue was daubed with red paint on 9 February, following a similar incident which took place in October last year.

“Police said two masked individuals using fire extinguishers sprayed red paint over the premises on Shipquay Street at about 21:30 GMT on Sunday,” reported the BBC. “The two fire extinguishers were then thrown at the building, damaging the windows.”

“The shop was targeted in a separate attack in October, when red paint was daubed over the shopfront and windows were smashed. Officers appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident to contact them.”

A PSNI spokesperson said “enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of this incident, which at this time, is being treated as a hate crime.”
