The Novium Museum in Chichester has installed a pop-up arcade as part of its new I Grew Up 80s exhibition, which features a selection of the toys, music, and games aimed at young people during the decade.
The arcade features 12 retro cabinets such as Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Centipede, Galaga, and Rampage, and is included at no extra cost with entry to the exhibition.
“We are thrilled to be offering this fantastic pop-up arcade as part of our I Grew Up 80s exhibition during February half-term,” said Chichester District Council councillor John Cross. “The 1980s was a defining decade for pop culture, and gaming played a huge role in that.”
“Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or discovering the classics for the first time, this event is a wonderful opportunity to experience the fun and creativity of the era.”
As well as gaming, the show includes more than 200 individual items that demonstrate the creative diversity of the decade, including Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Transformers toys, Queen and Kate Bush album covers, Rubik’s Cubes and leg warmers.
Anticipating the popularity of the arcade, The Novium Museum will remain open late on 21 February, to allow visitors to make the most of the free-play cabinets.
