Having entertained players since 2012, Reel Fruits by Mr P’s Classic Amusements has announced the immediate closure of its Maidstone arcade, with the venue set to become a new entertainment concept later this year.
Reel Fruits has announced the immediate closure of its Maidstone venue after 14 years, saying its “sparkle and magic” had faded despite the efforts of staff.
In a statement posted on social media, Mr P’s Classic Amusement’s said Maidstone Reel Fruits, which opened in 2012, would make a “dignified exit” from the group before transferring to a new concept later this year. The operator described the venue as having been “arguably the country’s” leading classic arcade at one point and reflected on the sacrifices made to keep it running following its relaunch.
“Maidstone Reel Fruits held some of the greatest memories for us. It’s remained as a classic arcade all these years and was often the top spot in Kent, arguably the country for a time,” the statement said.
“Since its reboot when it was just myself and Gary in there, so many sacrifices were made and grueling hours given to keeping the reels turning. Jack also threw his hat in the ring and did some crazy shifts.”
The post paid tribute to staff members Nicky and Andy, stating: “Both did their best and made the arcade a great community and place to be.”
The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from customers, many describing the venue as one of the UK’s best classic arcades.
One customer wrote: “For me Reel Fruits was and will always be the most enjoyable classic arcade in the country.”
Others recalled travelling long distances to visit the venue, with one player from Lincolnshire describing trips to the venue as “very special”, while another praised staff as “a credit to Reel Fruits”.
While the operator has not revealed what will replace Maidstone Reel Fruits, it confirmed the site will transfer to a “new concept” later this year. Mr P’s Amusements thanked customers for their support over the past 14 years and said it looked forward to welcoming them to its remaining venues.
