Norfolk-based Richardson’s Leisure reports on 2024 as a “challenging year” while moving forward with approved plans for a new FEC in Great Yarmouth.
Richardson’s Leisure, the Norfolk-based operator behind Hemsby Beach holiday park, has reported on a “challenging” 2024 in which revenues fell three percent – but director Gregory Munford has responded by investing in growth.
The company, which also owns two coffee shops, two family entertainment centres and a boating holidays division, reported a pre-tax loss of £1.3m, doubling from £630k in 2023.
Turnover slipped three percent from £12m to £11.6m, with a three percent rise in holiday park revenue to £6.4m offset by a nine percent decrease in boating holidays revenue.
In fairness, that’s not a bad show for a business in a sector under pressure where costs are rampaging and the price of employing staff much higher than last year.
And the response from Richardson’s is defiant to say the least. The mixed results have not disheartened the operator, with Munford confident that increased investment will allow Richardson’s Leisure to weather the storm.
“The directors were pleased with the results of the company in what was another challenging year for UK holiday, leisure and hospitality,” commented director Gregory Munford said. “Despite continued volatility in the economy, the directors believe the business is well placed to withstand the current economic environment. The impact of the current state of the economy has been mitigated by investment in the standard of accommodation. Looking forward, the focus will be on creating a day visitor attraction at Hemsby and building on our sole occupancy events.”
In October 2025, the company secured approval from Great Yarmouth Borough Council for a new leisure complex. First submitted in 2022, the scheme features a 25m pool, children’s pool, flume tower, water play elements, sauna facilities, gym and ten-pin bowling.
Investment is the solution
