The Rudd Group has shared findings published in the Lumina Intelligence UK Eating Out Market Report that show a decrease in how often UK families are choosing to eat at restaurants, bars and pubs. And that, says the supplier, is a signal to ensure venues offer affordable fun.
According to the data, 39.7 percent of family eating occasions now happen at home, an increase of 2.2 percent on last year, reiterating how important it is for venues to offer a value-for-money proposition.
“Families aren’t giving up on eating out, they’re just being more selective about when it’s worth the trip,” said a spokesperson. “Lumina’s analysts are clear on what works in response: experiential elements that shift the value equation from ‘a meal out’ to ‘an evening out.’”
“Live events, competitive socialising, things that extend dwell time and boost spend. As they put it, social context that home dining cannot replicate. That’s the case for pub entertainment in one sentence.”
Listing a number of popular entertainment options such as gaming machines, pool tables, quiz nights, dartboards, and jukeboxes, Rudd added “these aren’t nice-to-haves. They’re the reason a family chooses your venue over a takeaway and the sofa.”
“The independent operators we work with already know this. The data is starting to catch up.”
