The eighth annual Safer Gambling Week campaign posted 60 million impressions online, on the back of cross-party parliamentary support and endorsements from premiere league sides.
This year’s Safer Gambling Week enjoyed a 21 per cent annual rise in social media impressions, according to numbers released by the Betting & Gaming Council.
Safer Gambling Week is a joint organised event by the BGC, Bacta and the Bingo Association, in which the three trade associations join forces to raise awareness about responsible gambling tools and addiction mitigation resources available to players. A secondary aim is to facilitate conversations about healthy gambling between both customers and gambling business staff alike.
This year’s campaign garnered an impressive 60 million impressions between November 18 to 24, split across X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
“These outstanding and record-breaking results prove once more that our industry is serious about promoting the safer gambling tools available to customers and signposting the help and support available to those who need it,” remarked BGC head honcho Grainne Hurst. “Whilst we await the details on the number of people using safer gambling tools, past years have shown us that an increase in the number of social media impressions has led to an increase in the use of popular tools – like time-outs and deposit limits – that only exist in the regulated industry.”
Safer Gambling Week has been launched every year since 2016, and has grown in stature and impact throughout that time. This year’s outing saw the event garner cross-party support throughout parliament, including endorsements from gambling minister Baroness Fiona Twycross and Shadow DCMS Secretary Stuart Andrew MP.
The Gambling Commission also backs the initiative, with additional corporate support from premiere league clubs like Aston Villa and Spurs.
“Thanks to Safer Gambling Week, we can be confident millions of people are better informed about the ways they can safely enjoy their hobby, that’s something the entire industry can be proud of,” Hurst added. “As I said at the beginning of the week, our commitment to safer gambling is not just for one week of the year. It is our mission for every week of the year.”
