Dingles Fun Park in Lifton has closed less than two months after opening, with park manager Tom Ellis stating the “vast scale” of the site meant the attraction was unable to meet the demands of its rent.
Dingles Fun Park in Lifton has closed its doors less than two months after opening, with the income generated from its 20 rides proving too little to manage the “vast scale” of the 50,000 sq ft indoor site.
The attraction opened on 15 February, and took its name from the Dingles Fairground Museum which ceased trading in November, however this week the park announced it would now also be closing.
“We are very sorry to announce, due to unforeseen circumstances Dingles Fun Park is now closed,” said a spokesperson. “The Pop Fest tribute festival will also be cancelled due to the park closure.”
“All festival tickets will be refunded via ticket sailor. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Speaking to the BBC, park manager Tom Ellis cited the “vast scale” of the venue as being behind the decision, with the rent required being too high for the park’s continued operation.
“We hoped to bring in more attractions as planned, however we just couldn’t quite obtain a long-term lease to suit us and the landlords.”
Dingles Fun Park had been envisioned as a year-round venture, featuring rides from Ellis’ own travelling fair, including dodgems, teacups, a helter-skelter and waltzers, as well as others relocated from attractions in the north of England.
At the time, Ellis said the opening of a new family-orientated park in the area was “a no brainer,” following the closure of Flambards and Dairyland Farm Park in Cornwall.
