Skegness Pleasure Beach bids farewell to iconic Pirate Ship

Skegness Pleasure Beach has announced the closure of one of its longest-standing attractions, the Pirate Ship.

In a post shared with visitors, the park confirmed it has said goodbye to the Pirate Ship, which has been a fixture since 11 February 1983.

“Today we said goodbye to our Pirate Ship,” announced the operator. “It has been part of the park since 11th February 1983 and a firm customer favourite from day one. For decades it’s given generations their first thrill, plenty of laughs and memories that have lasted a lifetime.”

While the closure marks the end of a long-running chapter, the park said it also signals the start of something new.

“As we say goodbye, we do so with pride and excitement,” continued the operator. “This marks the end of one chapter but it’s also making way for something brand new in 2026 and we can’t wait to share what’s next!”

The announcement prompted nostalgic reactions from visitors, many of whom shared memories of riding the attraction over the years.

“I remember my mum taking me on there in the early 2000s,” shared Wayne Shackleton. “I crapped my pants the first time as I thought I was gonna fly out the seat.”
