JD Wetherspoon has increased the price of food and drinks at its 794 pubs across the country, adding up to 20p to the price of a pint.
The changes came into effect as of 3 June, and vary according to venue, with meal deals and hot drinks also included in the increase.
“Wetherspoon has always tried to remain as competitive as possible,” said chair Tim Martin. “We believe that, despite these increases, our prices are still reasonable.”
Reporting on prices at The Oxted Inn in Surrey, Propel wrote that “the price of a pint of Guinness has climbed by almost 6 percent from £3.50 in February to £3.70 today, while a pint of Carlsberg is up almost 8 percent from £2.59 to £2.79 over the same period.”
Breakfasts and main meal deals that include a drink have gone up in price by 10p, while free-refill tea and coffee prices have risen between 4p and 16p.
By Spoons standards it’s a unusual level of increase, but try getting that moderate level of price rise at Starbucks.
