Stanhope House Leisure reports decline in turnover for 2025 but machines help soften the hit

Bowling operator Stanhope House Leisure has reported that revenue for the year to 31 October 2025 declined 2.7 percent year-on-year to £3.8m, despite a significant rise in revenue generated by games machines and pool, up from £186,686 to £337,189.

Stanhope House Leisure has reported that revenue for the year to 31 October 2025 was down 2.7 percent year-on-year, falling from £3.9m to £3.8m, while pre-tax profit for the period also shrank from £1.4m to £996,517.

The bowling firm, which operates alleys in Altrincham and Chesterfield, stated that £2.4m of total revenue was derived from bowling, £1m from bar and food, and £337,189 from gaming machines and pool, up considerably from £186,686 the year before.

“The profits achieved have reduced within operations due to cost pressure from wages however profits have been stabilised due to purchase of a current asset investment which has generated passive income during the year,” said a statement from the directors. “The group’s gross profit margin has remained strong at 84.2 percent (2024: 88.7 percent).”

“The current financial year has followed on from 2025 with good performance posted in the year which has allowed the group to continue to strengthen its balance sheet position during the current effects of the cost of living crises which continue to affect inflation and borrowing costs.”

Staff costs for the period, which include wages, social security payments and pension contributions, increased from £1.2m to £1.3m, while rising supply costs also ate into profit.

“Director’s remuneration during the year totalled £9,787 (2024: £18,179). The highest paid directors received remuneration of £5,395 (2024: £9,734).

“Key management includes the directors and members of senior management. The compensation paid or payable to key management for employee services under salary and other short-term benefits totalled £163,130 (2024: £169,016).”
