Stockvale unveils plans for a new “mini-hotel” beside Adventure Island

Stockvale Ltd has unveiled plans to create a seven bedroom “mini-hotel” above the Sands By The Sea fish and chip shop at the entrance to Adventure Island, converting disused office space into “unique” seafront accommodation.

Stockvale Ltd has submitted plans to convert disused office space at the entrance of Adventure Island into a new seven bedroom “mini-hotel,” in a bid to boost Southend’s tourism offer.

The proposals concern the units above the Sands By The Sea fish and chip restaurant formerly occupied by Radio Essex, with designs drawn up by SKArchitects for a “unique” seafront destination.

“The proposal would deliver a unique seven-room hotel, helping to support the local tourist economy while providing high-quality visitor accommodation in a distinctive waterfront setting,” said a spokesperson. “The development would further enhance Southend’s tourism offer and contribute positively to the city’s appeal as a visitor destination.”

“The application has been carefully designed to align with local planning policies that support the provision of new tourist accommodation. We look forward to a favourable outcome and to seeing this ambitious and aspirational tourism facility become a reality.”

The hotel would provide guests with easy access to Three Shells beach, and the benefit of 24-hour staffing at the adjacent theme park.

Responding to the plans, councillor Matt Dent said: “I can certainly see the advantages of providing more tourism accommodation on the seafront, particularly having it basically inside the park. That is going to be a huge draw and major selling point to families looking to make the most of the abundant offerings at the seafront.”

“The application will need to be assessed and go through the proper processes before the planning committee makes a final decision, but I can absolutely see the appeal of this use for the site.”
