The Light expands into entertainment with backing confirmed from Luke Johnson’s Risk Capital Partners

Cinema operator The Light has expanded into entertainment with a new 70,000 sq ft leisure complex in Huddersfield’s Kingsgate Shopping Centre, part of a major expansion backed by Luke Johnson’s Risk Capital Partners.

The three-storey former House of Fraser unit features laser quest, indoor high ropes course, mini golf, bowling alley, football pitch and animatronic dinosaurs, and opened this week just six months after securing funding from RCP.

“Huddersfield is the latest evolution of our entertainment model, which is continuing to deliver exciting results,” said CEO James Morris.

“We are happy to have been able to transform the House of Fraser in partnership with Kirklees Council and the Kingsgate Shopping Centre to create one of the most exciting indoor entertainment venues in the UK, and are immensely proud to be part of the regeneration of such an amazing town.”

Huddersfield is  just part of Light’s operational charge: they have designs to “accelerate our growth, which will help to re-purpose other spaces and cinemas across the UK, providing landlords and developers with a unique and commercially attractive solution, protecting cinema, re-imagining spaces and delighting customers.”
