Trinity Bingo has lodged plans with Dorset Council to convert a former Boots chemist unit on Weymouth’s St Mary Street into a new bingo hall.
The proposals include major internal alterations, as well as an updated shopfront, portraying a blue and white sign featuring the Trinity Bingo logo.
“An agent acting for the building’s owner says that the new use and new frontage would benefit the town centre Conservation Area and bring a property which has been empty since mid-2022 back into use, as well as create an undisclosed number of jobs,” reported the Dorset Echo.
“The proposals include the removal of an internal partition wall between Numbers 81 and 82, which the agent argues does not constitute ‘development’ and therefore does not require planning permission.”
The plans also include replacing the aluminium shopfront installed at Number 81 with “a traditional timber design” to echo the neighbouring unit, a move that will “enhance the appearance of the listed building itself and the surrounding Conservation Area.”
“A new unilluminated fascia sign, 5.5 metres by 0.8 metres, would feature a blue timber panel with white Trident Bingo lettering and a lighter blue underline.”
