UKGC takes action on Allwyn’s failure to modernise National Lottery systems

The Gambling Commission has begun enforcement action against Allwyn in response to the National Lottery operator’s failure to implement key modernisation commitments before February this year.

The company had been tasked with updating the Lottery’s systems, online platform, retail equipment and user interface as part of its licence awarded in 2022, however the roll out is now overdue.

“In its newest annual report, the UKGC confirmed that enforcement action was underway,” it was reported. “The operator appears to have underestimated the challenge, justifying delays with the need to move 30 years of legacy data to its new platforms.”

Gambling News added: “While Allwyn is making some progress, including a significant systems upgrade on 2 August, the regulator remains critical of the slow pace of the updates.”

Though Allwyn is yet to comment on enforcement proceedings, the company acknowledged “a contractual milestone in the enabling agreement was not reached” as part of its annual report, published in May.
