Wetherspoon to open 13 new pubs this year

JD Wetherspoon has announced it will open a total of 13 new pubs this year, including several in prominent travel hubs, such as Manchester Airport, London Bridge and Waterloo Station.

Four of the new sites will also be located in Haven Holiday Parks, with the raft of new openings coming after the pub brand revealed a  5.1 percent increase in like-for-like sales for the 25 weeks to 19 January.

“The company is confident of a reasonable outcome for the year, although forecasting is more difficult, given the extent of the increased costs,” said chair Tim Martin, noting that as of 1 April, “labour-related costs at Wetherspoon will increase by around £60m per annum.”

Alongside London Waterloo and Marlow in Buckinghamshire, which opened this month, new pubs will appear at Manchester Airport Terminal Two, Fulham Broadway Station, Tooley Street by London Bridge, and Station Road, Beaconsfield.

Town centre openings include George Street, Bath, Whiteley shopping centre in Fareham, and Wetherby High Street, while Haven has agreed new sites in Cleethorpes, Devon Cliffs, Rochester and Haggerston Castle.
