Wolverhampton Council backs opening of new Superbowl UK

If the government, local councils and local communities were in any doubt of how important the amusements, gaming and gambling industry is to the future of the UK’s high street economies, then they should listen very closely to the City of Wolverhampton Council: its latest investor Superbowl – and all its amusements offerings – are delivering “major regeneration” to the area.

City of Wolverhampton Council has welcomed the imminent arrival of Superbowl UK to the Mander Centre, stating the brand new venue is testament to the authority’s “transformation works to improve the area.”

It’s welcome recognition of the importance of amusements, gaming and gambling venues to the revival of UK high streets.

And Superbowl is clearly a big generator for the local economy. At 17,000 sq ft, the bowling and FEC complex will officially open on 21 May, and undoubtedly contribute to revitalising Victoria Arcade and Victoria Street as “a vibrant leisure centre” while creating 30 full and part-time jobs.

“Superbowl UK’s new venue is set to open its doors to the people of Wolverhampton in the Mander Centre on Wednesday 21 May,” said a council spokesperson. “Fitted with 12 bowling lanes, Crazy Club soft play, interactive darts, bar and diner and SEGA Prize Zone Arcade, it will bring the company’s distinctive brand of family entertainment and competitive socialising to the city.”

“Superbowl UK’s investment boosts the city centre’s leisure offer and follows the council’s transformation works to improve the area.”

Speaking after the plans were approved, cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills Chris Burden said: “This investment provides a major boost to the city centre’s leisure offer for residents and visitors, creates jobs for local people, increases footfall to support current and emerging businesses, and complements plans coming forward for major regeneration around the Market Square area.”
